So I'm going to be swapping my 91 na auto to a manual from a 90 GST (whole donor car). I have to keep the parts spend low and I'm learning the shifter cables and assembly is different from 90 to 91.

Before I suck it up and start sourcing 91+ equipment, do I have any hope of using my 90 items with modification? Probably a stupid question I know I'm just trying to sacrifice as much as I can from the parts car I bought (not knowing there were so many differences between the 2 years.)

Thanks in advance for any help, you all have been far more helpful then the forums in the past.

Yes it's different. But I don't think you need the 91 equipment if you have a complete/whole set from the 90 donor car. (90 shifter base/90 cables/transmission with all 90 accessories like selector arm, cable bracket, bracket base)

As mentioned to use the 90 turbo transmission you'll have to swap the whole thing, trans, cables, shifter base. You'll also have to swap the pedals, cut the hole for the clutch master, and bring over the plumbing for the clutch.

The 90 engine swap is going to be almost as much work and it's here you might want to source 91 parts for the throttle body, fuel rail, CAS, and modify the 91 harness to Manual Turbo spec.

There are ECU differences but a 90 ECU will work with a 91 gauge cluster and 91 ignition parts but not the other way without additional work.

You should look at this as both a NA to Turbo swap and a ATX to MTX swap then identify the overlap.

The manual swap will be the first order of business, I'm pretty well ready to swap over per the vfaq page, but the 90-91 differences appeared to be the only roadblock I'd come across with parts, but I will be using all 90 mtx parts I have for this portion of the swap.
Knowing the ecu will work 90 I to 91 is actually great news, although I'd love to swap over the cluster as well for the factory boost gauge as well because I'm trying to build it as oem as possible but that would require trying to swap odometers and that's probably going too far.

So I completed the swap a couple months ago but now as I near inspection time I have 2 items to complete for my sticker. The reverse lights wont work (determined it is wiring because jumping the connection does nothing) and I need my clutch safety switch working as well. I have the switch and the pig tail for the switch off my parts car, just wondering if someone could help me with how to wire it to my starter relay. Not sure where I should start on the reverse lights, I'm sure it has to do with me removing the TCU and that the circuit for the reverse lights are no longer connected or not getting power at least. Thanks again!
