Fixed the problem areas on an OBX LSD for my Neon. I was surprised to find one of these Neon/420A LSDs for sale from a wholesaler in 2023, couldn't really say no at $400 when the alternative is $900. The issues with the OBX are the fact that it likes to jam axle circlips due to poor machining, and the belleville washers that preload the diff tend to fail. Both can be addressed with a bit of work. There are inexpensive kits out there to swap out the troublesome washers with good ones, and they come with upgraded bolts. The new bolts were actually the same as the old bolts, so OBX may have actually upgraded them in the last round of diffs they made (in 2017?).

Anyway, just cut the sharp transition on the diff gear splines that jam c-clips, convert it to a bit of a ramp and voila!

Clean every part piece-by-piece, apply some new grease, re-assemble the unit with the proper belleville washers, slap the case together and torque it down with the new bolts. That's it. Plenty of traction for my happy little Neon!

I was too concerned to ever buy an OBX diff. I used the Quaife LSD which I acquired a few years ago, and shit they've raised the price now. In the past I purchased some OBX products and ultimately ended up buying the higher quality options after. So if anything they've cost me more money. It's nice to know there's a remedy for the poor craftsmanship of that specific product, but I don't see the Quaife unit breaking in the near future so it's probably not info that I'll use personally.

I'm out of fuel on my 996 Turbo and need to upgrade the fuel system (Walbro 450 pump, -8AN supply line, -6AN return line, etc.) before I can upgrade to bigger turbos. Currently at ~630hp (which is really pushing the stock injectors and fuel pump), shooting for 750-800hp. After that it's a slippery (and very expensive) slope for chasing power so I'll be "done" with this car at that point.

It's also overdue for some maintenance so the Talon might get set aside for a bit so I can get this one ready for summer.

F*cking LOVE those body style and engine combo porches. God I want one so bad.

Very aggressively scrubbed off all that tree sap and pollen, which took a while. As I suspected, there almost isn't any clear coat left on the paint. The trunk is the best looking part on the car because I rattle canned it a few days ago to stop surface rust from worsening. It actually turned out great considering a can of paint is $7. At the current point I could probably sell this car for 15x my investment. But it's the highest mileage and most fuel efficient car I own now, so I'm thinking of using it as a daily driver.

At 6’3” I can tell you I hate driving them. Hurts just to get behind the wheel. The 1g though, I can stretch my legs out all the way..ahhh.
I'm 6'4" and I fit just fine in water cooled cars. It's a tight fit in the older 911s though. The first thing I had to do with the Talon was get new seats though because I have to recline the seats back past the point of comfort to not have my head on the ceiling (well, that and the original seats were trashed in my car).

So....I got my daily truck running to where I want it to be. I have a couple mods I want to do this year to hopefully get it into the single digits. It's pretty crazy to think about it as it is 100% street truck.

Now, I am focusing my attention on my Mustang. Unfortunately, I suspect it may have a worn guide or two (cylinder #2) but the car has been hibernating for so long, I am willing to drive it for the next few months with the mildly irritating smoking issue. It is tuned on low boost and E85 and I need to put it on the dyno to see where it is before cranking it up. Here is a pic of it from a couple days ago. On the street tires it has no traction in the first 3 gears so I am hoping it put down 700rwhp on that wastegate setting.

After a Desmodronic learning curve, multiple trips to my favorite Duc shop to borrow some critical tools, lots and lots of measuring, and plenty of sweating the details, my Testatretta is back together and ready for action with upgraded 1098S main bearings, secret sauce crankshaft shimming, a new layshaft bearing, correctly sized valve shims, and fresh belts:

My local club also allows E85, so I'm considering that too if it becomes necessary in order to maintain my power advantage over the R6's, some of whom have made that conversion already. That would be quite a bit of work so I won't do that unless I have to. I enjoyed about 10HP over the Yamahas in '22, which was critical because they turn so much better than I do. I only got to do one round in '23 so I'm amped about getting back to the track to do some racing this year. As far as machines go cars will always have my heart, but there's nothing quite like racing a bike for the excitement and the satisfaction of doing well at something so difficult and dangerous. I enjoy challenging projects (which is probably why I own a DSM).

Yes that I would not know, the one I drive occasionally is an older Carrera, (04 I think) Another interesting point I’ll be curious to see if I’m as comfortable driving the Talon as I used to be. I had that seat probably much more reclined than my back would allow now…

Jesus the coyotes are ridiculous man. I’d never think that truck would run damn near a 9 if it pulled up on me.

Lets see....

Worked on e30 m50 swap wiring... this project is a mess but fun to learn new platform

Started dropping subframe on 350z so I can put solid inserts in and the 4.1 diff.

Too many cars ti keep up on sometimes!

If I had more than one I'd get neither done. I need to concentrate on one thing at a time.

Whilst I'm not doing the work (need to concentrate on one thing at a time, and this summer is getting the car running), dealing with contractor quotes on a fence and back deck. The fun of a new house build that came with neither. Also looking into solar. The calcs show I can generate about 80% of my monthly power usage from roof panels. It's a huge cost of about 32k CAD but our gov has some nice 0% interest 10yr loans for it and the province kicks in 5k. Weighing how our power bills will be in 10 years compared to now

For those that don't know, my province generates its power from hydroelectric sources. Cost freezes have recently been recinded and rates are starting to climb. Increased strain due to rapidly rising population will only make this worse so in 10 years we will be paying a LOT more than we do now.

Power is one of those bills you can't really avoid so since we cut the cable bill, that may be very worthwhile to divert to the increased cost of getting into solar. Won't cover all but a good part of it.

Something to think about and perhaps jump on with the company promo that's running

When I looked at solar it was an 8 year time before ROI here. Unless you plan on retiring in your house it may nit be worth it.

I did switch to an EV as my commuter vehicle and Im saving about $500 month in gas net.

Everything is getting pricey... cut where you can!

We have shit for charging infrastructure here but EV will likely be the next car we own after my cx5 gives up. I don't drive that much so my gas costs are maybe 150-200/month. EV would add an extra 800 at least, due to financing and then whatever it costs to install a charger here. We have a 200A service but would have to add subpanel as I'm tapped out on my main. Solar would mean the same.

We don't want to buy another house... But even if we did we would make our money back on solar by just adding it to the cost of the house. And it would sell.
The only reason we would sell is if we could no longer afford it or something happened and we couldn't deal with the stairs anymore. Then we go bungalow.

10year is what I'm projecting for break even with the rising rates. Surplus in summer but not as much production in winter so it's a bit of a wash there.

Unboxed more parts to put my ‘78 f250 (family inheritance) back on the road after its 20 year hibernation aside from pulling it out of the garage once in 2014. I have had it started and running a few years ago but needs gone through, it’s currently garaged at our family property 150 miles south of here and I was going to attempt to drive it home but being it’s so far off the trail the closest parts store is 20 miles from where it’s at and I can never find the tools I need when I’m there I decided we are going to trailer it in a few weeks. Everything I have is just the basics, going to do belts and hoses but wanted to wait until I get it up here and can match them up at the parts store, same with plugs. I’m sure I’ll need more but this is just to get it moving and stopping. Last picture was the last time it was out in daylight in 2014. With that being said, sadly I have a few interested buyers in the dsm’s and all the parts, between the f250, my Ranger, and a 1980 Dodge Aspen I definitely didn’t need, I no longer have time or space and these cars just no longer interest me like they did for 20 years between finding parts, what social media has done to the community, and so on, I’ve hit the point I’d rather have the space and it’s time to let it go. And yes, it has an 8 track player, and yes it will be staying as it plays Waylon Jennings wonderfully. Also if anyone has a copy of Frampton comes alive on 8 track I’m interested in buying haha.
